Today was surreal. That's probably the best word I can use to describe it.
We met at the ferry dock at 7:30 or so, ready to catch the boat across to Nevis. Bassaterre is not a big place, but one thing it has plenty of is bars. Now I'm not shy when it comes to having a beer, but just before 8 in the morning is not really my cup of tea. That is very much the done thing here so I had to go with the flow and join in. Suffice to say it was not the most enjoyable beer I've ever had. It soon became clear there was going to a theme to the day.
The 45 minute crossing to Nevis provided some amazing scenery, and luckily there wasn't a bar on board!
The rest of the day basically entailed bar hopping all around the island. I was mainly there for the sights, so I let the locals do what they do best and tried to stay out of the constant stream of alcohol!
We watched the sun set on the ferry back, which was a great end to an amazing experience. I think there will be some very sore heads in the morning!
